The uterus (from Latin “uterus”, plural uteri) or womb is the primary hormone-responsive, secondary intercourse organ of the lady reproductive device in people, and most other mammals. Events going on inside the uterus are described with the time period in utero. In the human, the decrease quit of the uterus, the cervix, opens into the vagina, even as the upper cease, the fundus, is hooked up to the fallopian tubes. It is inside the uterus that the embryo and later fetus develops for the duration of gestation. In the human embryo, the uterus develops from the paramesonephric ducts which fuse into the unmarried organ known as a simplex uterus. The uterus has special bureaucracy in many other animals and in a few it exists as two separate uteri called a duplex uterus.
In medicinal drug, and associated professions the term uterus is continually used, while the Germanic-derived term womb is normally used in regular contexts.
